Salary Cap
We will use a cap of $70m and it will be a hard cap. You will not be able to over the cap. For teams that start out over the cap. They will not be allowed to bid on FA's until they are under the cap. If they bid on a FA they must drop a player of equal salary and pay the fee to drop them
Contracts
Bidding will be done for players before the league starts and as well as during free agency. The minimum salary is 200k. Contracts are rounded to the nearest 100k. Once a bid is open for 48 hours without a bid then the highest bidder is the winner. You will be bidding on the whole dollar amount of the contract. For example. If bid 50m for Chris Paul, I am saying that the entire value of his contract is 50m. Contract guidelines are:
$1m or less = 2 years
$1.1m - $4.9m = 3 years
$5.0m - $9.9m = 4 years
$10m or higher = 5 years
Maximum salary for any new contract is $16m per season.
You may never go over cap with a bid. Treat a bid as if it was final and was going to count against your cap that second. You may never go over the roster limit either. The only way around this would be to post on a bid that you will conditionally drop a player only if you win the bid.
Example
Dirk Nowitzki has a winning bid of $48m so in terms of years the GM can do the following:
1 year at $48m - can't do this as it is over $16m per year
2 years at $24m - can't do this as it is over $16m per year
3 years at $16m
4 years at $12m
5 years at $9.6m - can't do this as it does not reach the min $10m per season
All contract end dates are the final day of the playoffs.
Injured Reserve
In Three-Peat our IR spots do not count against the CAP which gives a little freedom to each owner. But please remember that you will need CAP room on your squad for the players coming off the IR.
Players can only be put on the IR if they are injured in real life. The commissioner has the right to force illegal IR stashes back to the roster.
